The old cycle club habit came back as a method, and typing a little by hand every single day is enough to make the basic commands stick." tags: Linux, command line, typing practice, beginners, English, learning method, operator story --- ## Why I Built a Linux Command Typing Practice Tool, haha I worked in Gokseong again today and just got back. My knees are strangely sore today. I am not that old, but some chronic condition has already settled in. Even a short walk makes the knees feel cold and stiff. haha Ah, this is sad. I am not at that age yet, haha. That is not what I meant to write, and here I go off on another tangent again. haha I am making one piece of content today as well. When I first learned Linux, command line was completely new to me and my eyes and my hands were equally unfamiliar with it. I had a rough time. Skip one day of practice and I forgot it, and a little later it all got muddled again. Is that just my age? haha So I thought it through carefully. **"How could I make this easier to learn?"** But there was one big obstacle. I told this story before, but I am hopeless with English. The only English I know is roughly day? Beyond that, I really do not know much. Truly a frustrating place to be. Then something occurred to me. Around when I was twenty, cycle clubs were the thing. haha Anyone who knows about that is probably in their forties or fifties, haha. I learned to type back then to join a cycle club. Until then I used the hunting bird method. That memory came back, and I thought. **"Right! I can learn Linux the same way, with typing practice!"** So that is how the Linux command typing practice tool began. I imagine quite a few people are in a similar position. People in their forties who want to learn Linux, teenagers, and beginners who have just stepped into Linux for the first time. If you keep at it, you should be able to pick up the basic commands naturally, right? Of course there is one rule that must not be broken. **You have to keep at it!** Ten minutes a day is enough. Type a little by hand every single day. Reading something with your eyes and typing it with your hands are clearly not the same thing. Linux beginners, all of us including me, let us do our best! Linux is genuinely fun once you get into it. It has a charm that is completely different from Windows. I used Windows for close to thirty years, and it has now been about a year since I moved to Linux. But these days, if someone told me to go back to Windows, I could not. haha That is how much charm Linux has on its own. All right then, so I really want to learn Linux! The method I recommend to people like that is simple. **How should I learn?** Teach me! haha Just delete Windows and install Linux. Then you cannot get out of it, right? What are you going to do? You have to learn! haha Of course it does not have to be a deletion. Dual boot or a virtual machine works just as well to start. But if you really want to learn properly, running into it yourself is a good method too. Try it once. **A whole new world may open up!** Come on over to the Linux world, everyone. There is a kind of fun waiting for you that is nothing like the world of Windows only. See you on Linux then! Let us do our best! bye bye haha
