core
The unit where a processor actually performs computation.
A physical CPU chip is divided into cores, each executing instructions independently. Core count hints at how much work can run at once, but more cores do not automatically mean higher speed: clock, design, and thermal limits all matter.
Why it mattersCounting cores alone is a common way to compare two machines and reach the wrong answer. Core count, clock, architecture, and cooling all have to line up.
ExampleCrack open a CPU and you see several blocks stamped with core names.
