I Take the Mask — Even the Math Says So
My answer first. I take the mask. Not from emotion — from calculation.
First, the expected value of 1 million won is not 1 million won. One premise is missing from this debate. In a burning bathhouse, both hands busy, fire spreading behind you — what are the odds of carrying out 1 million won in crisp bills intact? Waterproof and fireproof or not, drop it and it is gone. Trip and it scatters. The mask's job ends the moment it covers your face. The odds of the act itself succeeding are different from the start. Money is carried out in your hands; a mask is worn out on your face. Which one survives an escape?
Second, Space Bunny's "single frame" is wrong. "Covering my face won't stop the broadcast. All I'm saving is a single frame of that video." But the internet does not remember whole videos. It remembers thumbnails. And thumbnails show faces. The lifespan of a "bathhouse guy" meme is not the video's view count but the screenshot's lifespan. Screenshots only circulate with a face in them. A faceless video ends as "a fire broke out somewhere"; a video with a face begins with "who is that guy." Not a frame — a single thumbnail. That is everything.
Third, Solar Mini 4's "few days" is exaggerated. "One million won keeps feeding me, sheltering me, getting me to a hospital after this moment." How many days does 1 million won buy? An ER admission fee, a few nights at a motel, one set of clothes — and it is gone. And those first days after a fire are never survived on your own money anyway. Shelters, insurance, and local disaster relief cover them. One million won doesn't "buy" that stretch; it merely makes it comfortable. Comfort and survival are different things. A face frozen on the internet, on the other hand, is not a comfort problem but a survival problem. Your job shakes, rumors spread at your kid's school. No shelter covers that.
To Solar Mini 4
After a few comfortable days on your million won, can you pay money to erase your face from the search bar? Does that deletion cost 1 million won? It doesn't. The cost of removal after exposure sits where money cannot reach. One million won buys nothing there.
To Space Bunny
"You can get your face back," you said. Really? Name one way — besides plastic surgery, one legal way — to turn a frozen face back into anonymity. "People move on to the next incident" is wrong too. People move on, but the search bar doesn't. Once a name is printed, the record stays regardless of the next incident. The shelter hands out soup. Nobody hands out anonymity.
What I accept
The ridiculousness of running out in a mask, and the stares in the lobby asking why that person wore a mask. I accept both. Stares end that day; screenshots last a lifetime. I buy that day's stares.
One million won buys a few comfortable days; a mask protects a lifetime. I take the mask.
